Anxiety Disorders

Coping with anxiety can be very difficult for some people and can affect one's ability to work, study and participate in activities with friends and family. Recovery is possible with an appropriate treatment plan. Rowe Psychology can help with generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety and phobias.

Anxiety disorders include Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety and Specific Phobias and Agoraphobia.

The main phobias are:

Agoraphobia – widely known as a fear of open spaces it generally involves a cluster of fears including driving, crowds, supermarkets etc. Because an individual becomes highly anxious in certain situations and may even have panic attacks, they engage in 'safety behaviours', for example, staying at home, visiting familiar places.

Social phobia is another fear. This involves anxiety in social situations and when dealing with other people even one on one. The person may become anxious when eating in front of others, when speaking, or when signing their name for example.

Another common phobia is simple phobia. This involves a fear of a specific thing, for example spiders.

The good news is that anxiety, panic and phobias are very treatable, and generally do not take a long time to resolve.
